Student Activities

Here is a comprehensive list of school sponsored programs and activities.  Students should pay attention to daily broadcasts and Titan Talk for more information on club activities and events.  This should be used only as a guide to what is available; more detailed information about clubs is provided via daily broadcasts, elkinspointe.net and through informational meetings.  Students should contact the teacher sponsor for more information.

Extramural Sports Program

The Fulton County extramural sports programs are available to all 7th and 8th grade boys and girls who are in good academic and behavioral standing.  Participants in the extramural program must have a current physical form and signed permission/insurance form on file in order to participate.  There are no costs associated with the program, however all athletes must have appropriate athletic shoes and transportation. The extramural sports program is a competitive traveling program that competes against neighboring Fulton County Middle Schools.  All ability levels are welcome.  All sports club information is posted outside the PE locker rooms.  Practices are generally held three to four times per week after school.

Sports include: Tennis, Soccer, Volleyball, Tumbling, Basketball, & Track.  See Mr. Emory Johnson for more information, or email johnsonem2@fultonschools.org.

Intramural Sports Program

The EPMS intramural is a fun sports program available to all students at all ability levels.  In order to participate in the intramural program students must have a signed permission form on file.  Students may come as often as they would like.  There is no commitment. Each month a different sport is featured.

MathCounts

MathCounts is a national organization with local chapters in Atlanta where middle school students compete locally, state-wide, and nationally in competitions.  This is the 8th year that Elkins Pointe has participated. We have had several state-wide participants and one national participant who represented the state of Georgia on a four-person state team.

Recycling Club

Chamber Orchestra

Is an Orchestra ensemble for advanced Orchestra students.  .

Requirements: Orchestra students in all grades may apply.  Audition is required.

Titans Rock!

Titans Rock! is an after-school music club.  All students learn to play some guitar.  More advanced students will form bands.

Requirements: Titans Rock! is open to all students regardless of skill level or experience.  Singers, bass players and drummers are welcome! 

The Pointe Team

This select group of 6th grade up and coming leaders represents EPMS with the rising 6th grade transition activities. The purpose of this group is to help rising 6th graders make a smooth transition to middle school.  The Pointe Team visits all three feeder schools, speaks at the rising 6th grade parent coffee and hosts a program and tour for all rising Titans!!!!

Coffee Club

A time for students to gather to enjoy a cup of coffee and share conversation on recent events, school activities and academics.

Broadcast News Team

The Broadcast News Team writes, produces, and creates the daily morning news program at EPMS. Crew members also help at the annual Book Fair. The Broadcast News Team is in front of the entire school each morning with the newscast they deliver. They are leaders in the school and are often called upon to help teachers with their A/V equipment in the classroom. They are trained on each piece of equipment in the studio and many go on to participate with their high school broadcast news teams.

Times:  Active crews report each morning at 8am to complete that morning's broadcast. Each crew assignment lasts for approximately 3 weeks and is rotated throughout all students who applied to be on the team so that each applicant gets at least one opportunity to participate.

Requirements:  Parent permission, teacher recommendation, no in-school or out-of-school suspensions, grade maintenance.

Yearbook

Yearbook is a year-long connections class open to 8th graders who applied and were selected during the spring of their 7th grade year.  The yearbook staff produces the Elkins Pointe yearbook which is delivered in May.  To accomplish this task, students will learn and become proficient in journalism, technology and life skills.

Origami Club

Experience the world of Origami, the art of paper folding!  Learn basic Origami skills; improve motor skills, and increase multi-cultural and math awareness while having fun!  You will take home beautiful, playful, traditional, seasonal, or even "convenient" Origami works!  Beginners welcome.

Young Male Scholars

Young males are in need of positive men to assist them in understanding how to conduct themselves in a variety of professional and social environments. The rise in school dropouts in Georgia and behavior problems in schools stem in many cases from the absence of a positive role model. Given this task, the teacher mentors set strategic goals for the group to equip the young men in various areas with the tools needed to become successful, productive members of the global community. Through improvement in academics and interpersonal skills, scholars are motivated to achieve greatness and become role models for their peers.

Times: Bi-monthly meeting, dress for success Wednesday.

Requirements: Open to all young males in 6th, 7th, & 8th grades.  Guidance and teacher recommendations are appreciated for the students who can put forth the effort towards change.

Jr. Beta Club

The Jr. Beta Club is a service organization that promotes citizenship and dedication.  Jr. Beta members strive to improve our school and surrounding community by volunteering for different events in our area.  Our students maintain respect and dignity to represent Elkins Pointe well.

Cost:  $20.00 one time membership fee

Times:  Meet one time per month offered on two days.

Requirements:  Maintain a 90% GPA and excellent and satisfactory in conduct.  15 service hours due per semester and 10 in the summer.  Sign-ups held in October during advisements.

Star House

This program is funded through a non-profit organization that began over 17 years ago to help "At Risk Children".  The program is open to all students who may need extra help with homework, projects, and other school related assignments.  Students must meet certain academic requirements as well as having good attendance and citizenship to apply, as well as to remain active in the program.  Membership is limited in number and a waiting list is maintained for those wishing to enter the program as soon as space is available.

Times:  Monday - Thursday from 4:00 to 5:30 pm

Requirements:  An application must be filled out.  Students must commit to attending a minimum of 2 days per week.  Students must pass all classes, or they will be put on probation for the next 4 1/2 weeks.  Failure to raise their grades may result in being taken out of the program.

Transportation:  A "Sweep Bus" making a limited number of central stops is available to students who participate in the program at no cost.

The Reading Bowl

The Reading Bowl Team is a competitive team consisting of students who love to read.  This team will read up to 20 books then attend meets/competitions in which team members answer questions about the books they've read.

Art Club

In art club, students have the opportunity to explore, expand, and reflect on their knowledge of the visual arts.  Students will be able to create artwork using various media.

Science Olympiad

For the past 25 years, Science Olympiad has led a revolution in science education. What began as a grass-roots assembly of science teachers is now one of the premiere science competitions in the nation, providing rigorous, standards-based challenges to more than 5,300 teams in 48 states. Science Olympiad's ever-changing event lineup -- ranging from Disease Detectives to Electric Vehicle to Bio-Process Lab -- provides a buffet of career choices and exposure to practicing scientists and mentors.  In the words of a Science Olympiad alumnus: "I consider Science Olympiad the most important and influential activity I participated in during my middle school and high school career."

Student Council

Student Council is led by an elite group of students willing to represent the school. Each representative is elected by their peers to speak on the student body's behalf.  There are fundraisers, community programs, and school activities put on by Student Council.

Times: General assembly meets once a month on Tuesdays before school.  Officers meet twice a month on Mondays or as needed before school.

Requirements: (1)Have no failing grades, (2) No more than two think room visits including tardies (3) Have excellent and satisfactory for conduct on your report card, (4) Must be willing to attend meetings, take notes, and relay information to their advisement class. 

Elkins Pointe History Society

We, the Members of the Elkins Pointe Historical Society, in hopes of stimulating, promoting and furthering the accumulation of historical knowledge of Georgia's local history, to promote responsibility and leadership skill among its members, and to assist the Roswell Historical Society to identify and preserve the historical landmarks in Roswell, Georgia, do hereby ordain and establish this constitution for the Elkins Pointe History Society, Roswell, Georgia.

Times: One to two times per month before or after school, plus one additional outside of school outing per month.

EPMS Fulton County Schools Technology Competition Team

Students compete with other Fulton County school students in technology-related projects.  First place winners at the county level later compete with students from across the state at the Georgia Educational Technology Fair.  Categories include:  Digital Video Editing, Hardware, Case Modification, Non-Multimedia, Multimedia, Animated Graphic Design, Non-Animated Graphic Design, Digital Photography, 3-D Modeling, Project Programming, Internet Applications, Individual Programming Challenge, and Robotics.

Times:  Competitions are held on a Saturday. 

Requirements:  Students should have taken Business & Computer Science and submitted a project to the sponsor for entry in the competition.  Students may use the computer room or work at home to complete their projects.  Projects should be stored on a removable storage device such as a CD or USB flash drive.   Parental approval is required for students to compete.  Transportation by parents to the event on a Saturday is necessary.  The number of participants to compete from each school is limited so if you're interested, please see Ms. Lindesay so that you will be registered on time.
