The 8th Grade Semester Final Exams (SFE) are scheduled for May 24-26. As in previous years in an effort to begin the transition for 8th graders into high school, we have rearranged the order of classes for May 24-26 to simulate the high school schedule for final exams. However, please note that high school exams are valued at 10% to 20% of the semester grade; but in middle school, the SFEs are valued the same as a chapter or unit test even though the exam may be a cumulative test for the semester.
Teachers have planned review activities that will count for part of the SFE grade and engage students in studying for the exams. Students are encouraged to review notes, complete review activities, study tests, and form study groups. Parents can help students by supervising study time, quizzing students from notes, preparing practice tests, and ensuring completion of review activities.
Each SFE is preceded by a thirty-minute review session. The exams will last no longer than 90 minutes.
*If a student is absent on the day of an SFE, the parent should call or email the teacher to reschedule an exam time before or after school. After June 3, 2011, any student who has not completed a SFE for a class will earn no credit for that test grade unless there are extenuating circumstances. SFEs will not be given early.
All unit tests, chapter tests, and major projects, unless cleared by the administration, should be completed by May 23rd.
PLEASE NOTE: This year Fulton County mandated CRCT retests are scheduled as follows: Reading, May 25; Math, May 26, and Make-Ups, May 27. Therefore, any student having to take a CRCT retest during a scheduled Semester Final Exam (SFE) will have the option of exempting the SFE. It is recommended that the student speak with the teacher of the SFE to determine the potential outcomes of both taking and not taking the SFE. If the student chooses to take the SFE, he or she must schedule a make- up time as outlined above*.
